The boys and I went to USF last week looking for art. We only found 3 before the rain hit and here is the first one, Solar Rotary by Nancy Holt. It is tucked away with the trees and you can’t really see much on the approach. The black bars blend in with the shadows of the trees. I was disappointed with my shots as the black almost disappeared.

So I walked around trying to find a better angle. I heard the plane and rushed to get it in the circle. Again disappointed with the outcome. In order to see it is a plane and not dust on the sensor, you have to zoom in too much and you lose the shape of the sculpture.

It is an interesting piece and you can read more about it in the St. Pete Times.
I like the pattern it makes on the ground. Well captured – even if you didn’t settle for the shot with the plane.
Neat piece–Would be fun to shoot it lying on the ground with a fisheye lens…
Those are interesting…
Shooting the shadow would be cool too!!!
I think your shots turned out really nice! Did you try shooting it lying down underneath it?
What a cool sculpture and fabulous clouds! Great processing too. :)
Very cool sculpture, pretty sky and your pp’ing is perfect!
Cool sculpture and shot!
so cool you take really interesting shots sharon!
I like both shots; the first partly because of the shadow of the bars underneath the sculpture, and the 2nd because of the contrast against the sky. Very nice!
I love the shadow that first picture is casting!
That is so neat. I just love how the sky comes in through the background.
I like that sculpture a lot! I thought the same thing as Pat, lying under it, esp with a fisheye!
